Team Decaf Tuesday Ride
April 4, 2023 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Hello Riders..and welcome to Team Decaf’s 2023 biking season. Our GRAND DEPART will be tomorrow, Tuesday, April 4.
For Tuesday's ride, let's go with a route that typically starts the season,
Go Directly to Jail - 16.7 miles - 552 feet. See below for more details.
For those of you who use RidewithGPS, you will find this route by searching for it by name or at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42408820
The Cue sheet is at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42408820/cue_sheet.
Looks like perfect early-season weather. Front and rear lights are recommended.
Sunset will be 7:47PM. Bill leads.
ATTENTION: Our early season rides always present a challenge, given the post-winter road conditions including pot holes, build-up of road debris, etc. And this GRAND DEPART may present even more challenges. Traffic calming measures such as curb extensions, narrowed roads, speed humps, and traffic circles have been installed to encourage safer, more responsible driving. These efforts intend to make biking safer, but do require more diligence on the part of riders, especially in group rides. Familiarize yourself with these safety measures at https://bikepgh.org/2020/12/03/12-pieces-of-bike-infrastructure-you-can-use-around-pittsburgh/. And I’m sure you’ve also encountered the mass of utility work that frequently blocks streets, especially in the East End. And even when the repairs are finished, sometimes street surfaces are left in ‘less than perfect’ condition…like the two patches of Penn Avenue near Aldi in Garfield. Bottom line: Be more vigilant as you ride this season. Let’s have a safe, accident-free 2023.
