Team Decaf Tuesday Ride
April 11, 2023 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Hello. This is Jason McCullough, and this is my first time officially leading a Team Decaf ride. This week, we are going to do a new route – in honor of local sculptor Thaddeus Mosley.
Starting normal time/place: 6:15PM, Tazza D’Oro. Tuesday, April 11
Standard Route
Here is the standard route: https://www.strava.com/routes/3079163092963565978
This route will pass by the following sculptures. In the route, I made it zig-zag a bit so that you know this is where a sculpture is.
- Intersection of Center and Penn (the cut-thru to Ellsworth across from Target). There are 3 sculptures here: Region in Suspension (1996), Oval Continuity (2017), and Branched Form (2017)
- Fifth Ave and Clyde: Inverted Dancer (2022)
- Behind the Carnegie Museum (you can see one of the sculptures thru the window)
- Martin Luther King Cultural Center (Milwaukee and Herron): Mountaintop (1987)
- Dinwiddle and Center: Phoenix (1979)
- Stanwix and Ft Duquesne Blvd: a portrait of Thaddeus is on the building
After this, the standard route returns via Lawrenceville and Allegheny Cemetery.
Extended Route:
Once we reach Point State Park as a group, I have added a more aggressive option for riders who want to go longer (and hillier) by climbing Greenleaf and crossing Duquesne Heights/Mt Wash/Allentown/Arlington:

Thaddeus Mosley:
You can read about Thaddeus Mosley here:

The idea and information for this ride was lifted from this activity from the ridiculously energetic and durable Alyssa Chance: https://www.strava.com/activities/8842281112 . However, it is not an obligation of this ride to wear the LED bunny ears.
Front and rear lights are recommended (and are NECESSARY for the extended route).
Sunset will be 7:54PM. Jason leads.
Legalities and Logistics:
Please be sure to sign in at https://forms.gle/TVfJUMVoaXLNswHGA at any time up to the start of the ride. Try to sign up as soon as you know you will be attending to avoid delays at the start. NOTE: YOU MUST SIGN IN FOR EACH WEEK’S RIDE.
HERE ARE THE RIDE DETAILS:
Team Decaf rides every Tuesday from April until the first Tuesday in October. The ride starts and finishes at Tazza D’oro Cafe, 1125 N. Highland, Highland Park, 15206. We leave at 6:15pm sharp. Plan to arrive around 6:00pm for sign-in and pre-ride details.
