SUMMARY:Redbank Creek Trail – East Brady – Brookville – East Brady
DESCRIPTION:Ride the Redbank Creek Trail from from East Brady to Brookville. Have lunch in Brookville\, nominally at the Courthouse Grill & Pub at 209 Main St. (Oops it is closed.  We will find somewhere else).  Then ride back. We are starting an hour later this year so we have a better chance of ordering from the lunch menu. Also stops at the convenience store in New Bethlehem there and back. So each leg is about 24 miles. Starting 1 hour later this year so we hit the restaurant for lunch. Note there are several tunnels that require a good headlight.  Rotue for 93 mile version is here:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43377567 \nIf you would rather have a 49 mile ride\, then ride from East Brady to New Bethlehem. In addition to the convenience store there are several restaurants\, including Zack’s Local Farm To Table Restaurant\, which opens at 11 AM on Saturdays. Course for 49 mile version is here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43159886 \nNote that the stretch from East Brady to New Bethlehem is remote enough that it doesn’t have good cell phone coverage. There are two tunnels so you need a headlight. \nThe Redbank Trail is solid enough that road tires generally work well. EXCEPT that there is about 1 mile of large gravel on the approach/return on the Armstrong trail that will make you feel superior if you have gravel tires.

SUMMARY:Butler-Freeport Trail (Freeport Start) - 20 miles
DESCRIPTION:Meet the Freeport end of the trail (parking lot off of Old Mill Rd). Start at a social pace for all for about a mile. People adjust to speeds as needed that are comfortable to them. President Jim will likely ride between 12-15 mph depending who else shows up. Others can ride their own pace. Ride to the turn-around point at Derailliers Cafe (closed). Starting at 1 PM as the later we wait today\, the warmer it gets.

SUMMARY:Rough Diamond Century 2022
DESCRIPTION:Saturday August starting at Point State Park Fountain. Ride with self support at Sheetz in Lower Burrell and Murrysville\, as well buying your own lunch in Saltburg\, perhaps at the Point Street Tavern.  You should be prepared to navigate on your own.   This is a self-paced and self-directed ride. \nOur route is similar to past years:– Starting at the fountain at Point State Park.– Riding “clockwise” like last year.– Route is 95 miles. We leave out the Tredway Trail – and the descent to it and the climb back from it.. To get to 100 miles\, ride to and from the start/end at Point/State Park.– We are starting at 7:30 AM. \nNote that as a trail project the Rough Diamond is ASPIRATIONAL.  Meaning there are missing bits\, and at times you need to climb steep long hills and ride busy highways.   If you read the news\, you know over the coming years the Rough Diamond will get better.  Still\, for most of us\, this is the only time of the year that we ride along the Kiskiminetas River. \nA gravel bike is appropriate for this route\, but I’ve ridden it many times on my road bike with 28mm wide tires.  Some of the trails along the Kiski are not rails-to-trails\, meaning they are not graded.  Or rather\, there are a couple of gravelly pitches over 15%.  On a road bike I usually walk them.  On a gravel bike\, I sometimes walk them. \nPro tip – Be sure to follow the correct trail leaving Saltsburg! \nPresident Jim is not riding this year.  Dave Lusher\, founder of the Rough Diamond Century\, will be meeting riders at the start\, answering any questions\, and sending riders on their way. \nRoute is here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36896373 You need to have your own navigation for the route.

SUMMARY:Redbank Trail – East Brady-Brookville-East Brady – 93 miles
DESCRIPTION:Ride the Redbank Trail from East Brady to Brookville and back. I am thinking a restaurant stop for lunch. I am thinking the Courthouse Grill and Pub in Brookville (halfway point). Or at Zack’s Local Farm to Table Restaurant in South Bethlehem (3/4 point). Has a tunnel so bring a headlight. Travel time to East Brady 1:10 for me \nThe Redbank Trail is quite a gem. The first half is very remote (so much so there are sections without cell coverage). Trail surface is crushed limestone\, but was good last year. Only resources are in New Bethlehem and Brookville. \nMy pace will be brisk. My trail average is around 14-15 mph. Given this is a trail\, people are welcome to ride their own pace. What happened last year is that the group rode out together. Then people rode their own pace back as the miles sunk in. \nAnother option is that you ride to South Bethlehem and back\, cutting the distance about in half. You get the most remote part of the trail. \nResources in Brookville: \nCourthouse Grill & Pub\n209 Main St\, Brookville\, PA 15825\n6 AM – 9 PM \nGiant Eagle\n40 S White St\, Brookville\, PA\nAt trailhead \nExxon – Unimart\n63 White St\, Brookville\, PA\nAt trailhead \nResources in South Bethlehem\, PA: \nZack’s Local Farm to Table Restaurant\n301 W St\, New Bethlehem\, PA\n11 AM – 9 PM\nOn trail \nVillage Pizza and Subs\n217 W W Broad St\, New Bethlehem\, PA\nSat 11 AM – 10 PM\, closed Sunday \nSunoco Gas Station\n200 Liberty ST & Broad St\, New Bethlehem\, PA

SUMMARY:Panhandle Trail – There and Back
DESCRIPTION:Ride the Panhandle Trail from Walkers Mill to Weirton and back (about 60 miles). Brisk pace.
