Daniel Lavelle – (when we cross Center on Melwood) \n\n\n\n            District 1 – Bobby Wilson (up for election vs Steven Oberst) – (when we cross Liberty at the bottom on Polish Hill) \n\n\n\n            District 3 – Bruce Kraus (up for election\, not running. Only candidate is Bob Charland) – (when we cross the Liberty Bridge) \n\n\n\n            District 2 – Theresa Kail-Smith – (when we get to McCardle after crossing the Liberty Bridge) \n\n\n\n            District 4 – Anthony Coghill – (when we start to walk up the trail from Bausman to Parklow) \n\n\n\n            District 5 – Barb Warwick (up for election vs Laura Brillman) – (when we turn onto Second Ave after the Jail Trail) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFront and rear lights are recommended. \n\n\n\nSunset will be 8:30PM. Jason leads. \n\n\n\nLegalities and Logistics: \n\n\n\nPlease be sure to sign in at https://forms.gle/TVfJUMVoaXLNswHGA at any time up to the start of the ride. Try to sign up as soon as you know you will be attending to avoid delays at the start. NOTE: YOU MUST SIGN IN FOR EACH WEEK’S RIDE. \n\n\n\nHERE ARE THE RIDE DETAILS: \n\n\n\nTeam Decaf rides every Tuesday from April until the first Tuesday in October. SUMMARY:Team Decaf Tuesday Ride
DESCRIPTION:Hello.  This is Jason McCullough\, and this is my first time officially leading a Team Decaf ride.  This week\, we are going to do a new route – in honor of local sculptor Thaddeus Mosley. \n  \nStarting normal time/place:  6:15PM\, Tazza D’Oro.  Tuesday\, April 11 \n  \nStandard Route \nHere is the standard route: https://www.strava.com/routes/3079163092963565978 \n  \nThis route will pass by the following sculptures.  In the route\, I made it zig-zag a bit so that you know this is where a sculpture is. \n\nIntersection of Center and Penn (the cut-thru to Ellsworth across from Target).  There are 3 sculptures here: Region in Suspension (1996)\, Oval Continuity (2017)\, and Branched Form (2017)\nFifth Ave and Clyde:  Inverted Dancer (2022)\nBehind the Carnegie Museum (you can see one of the sculptures thru the window)\nMartin Luther King Cultural Center (Milwaukee and Herron): Mountaintop (1987)\nDinwiddle and Center: Phoenix (1979)\nStanwix and Ft Duquesne Blvd: a portrait of Thaddeus is on the building\n\nAfter this\, the standard route returns via Lawrenceville and Allegheny Cemetery. \n  \n  \nExtended Route: \nOnce we reach Point State Park as a group\, I have added a more aggressive option for riders who want to go longer (and hillier) by climbing Greenleaf and crossing Duquesne Heights/Mt Wash/Allentown/Arlington: \n  \nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3079170313501117434 \n  \n  \nThaddeus Mosley: \nYou can read about Thaddeus Mosley here: \nhttps://www.ura.org/news/meet-the-artist-behind-new-sculptures-in-east-liberty-thaddeus-mosley \n  \nhttps://carnegiemuseums.org/carnegie-magazine/winter-2017/thinking-in-the-round/ \n  \nThe idea and information for this ride was lifted from this activity from the ridiculously energetic and durable Alyssa Chance: https://www.strava.com/activities/8842281112  .  However\, it is not an obligation of this ride to wear the LED bunny ears. \n  \n  \nFront and rear lights are recommended (and are NECESSARY for the extended route).Sunset will be 7:54PM. Jason leads. \nLegalities and Logistics: \nPlease be sure to sign in at https://forms.gle/TVfJUMVoaXLNswHGA at any time up to the start of the ride. Try to sign up as soon as you know you will be attending to avoid delays at the start. NOTE: YOU MUST SIGN IN FOR EACH WEEK’S RIDE. \nHERE ARE THE RIDE DETAILS: \nTeam Decaf rides every Tuesday from April until the first Tuesday in October. SUMMARY:Team Decaf Tuesday Ride
DESCRIPTION:Hello Riders..and welcome to Team Decaf’s 2023 biking season. Our GRAND DEPART will be tomorrow\, Tuesday\, April 4. \n\n\n\nFor Tuesday's ride\, let's go with a route that typically starts the season\,  \nGo Directly to Jail - 16.7 miles - 552 feet. See below for more details.\nFor those of you who use RidewithGPS\, you will find this route by searching for it by name or at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42408820\nThe Cue sheet is at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42408820/cue_sheet.\n\nLooks like perfect early-season weather. Front and rear lights are recommended.\nSunset will be 7:47PM. Bill leads. \n\n\n\nATTENTION: Our early season rides always present a challenge\, given the post-winter road conditions including pot holes\, build-up of road debris\, etc. And this GRAND DEPART may present even more challenges. Traffic calming measures such as curb extensions\, narrowed roads\, speed humps\, and traffic circles have been installed to encourage safer\, more responsible driving. These efforts intend to make biking safer\, but do require more diligence on the part of riders\, especially in group rides. Familiarize yourself with these safety measures at https://bikepgh.org/2020/12/03/12-pieces-of-bike-infrastructure-you-can-use-around-pittsburgh/. And I’m sure you’ve also encountered the mass of utility work that frequently blocks streets\, especially in the East End. And even when the repairs are finished\, sometimes street surfaces are left in ‘less than perfect’ condition…like the two patches of Penn Avenue near Aldi in Garfield. Bottom line: Be more vigilant as you ride this season. Let’s have a safe\, accident-free 2023. \n\n\n\nPlease be sure to sign in at https://forms.gle/TVfJUMVoaXLNswHGA at any time upto the start of the ride. Try to sign up as soon as you know you will be attending toavoid delays at the start. NOTE: YOU MUST SIGN IN FOR EACH WEEK’S RIDE. \n\n\n\nHERE ARE THE RIDE DETAILS: \n\n\n\nTeam Decaf rides every Tuesday from April until the first Tuesday in October. SUMMARY:Pittsburgh Randonneurs – Winter Warmup\, Pittsburgh Trails 100K ACP Populaire
DESCRIPTION:This is a Populaire sanctioned by RUSA. As such (a) You must join RUSA to ride it\, and (b) it is not a Western PA Bicycle Club ride per se. Please register for this ride on the Pittsburgh Randonneurs website https://pittsburghrandonneurs.com/event/2023-100k-acp-populaire-03-11/ \nPresident Jim recently scouted the route\, since he originally designed the route. He says: \nI rode the “Near Pittsburgh Mostly Paved Trail” 100 km Permanent on Sunday 2/26\, on which the upcoming Winter Warmup\, Pittsburgh Trails 100K ACP Populaire is based. The Populaire version of the route is here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41806952. Info on the upcoming Populaire is here: https://pittsburghrandonneurs.com/event/2023-100k-acp-populaire-03-11/ \nWhat’s Fun About this Route:\nThis route uses most of the riverfront trails close to Pittsburgh. It visits Allegheny Observatory on the Northside in Riverview Park\, and you get the view from the only substantial climb of the day. You visit the tip of the Point twice\, including the marker for the start of the GAP trail and the people watching opportunities. Where it’s possible\, it uses trails on different sides of the river – this includes near Boston and near downtown and the Southside. I find the Color Park fun\, and many views from bridges if we have any visitors. If you (i.e. me) are not riding for time\, The Sly Fox Brewery is several miles before the end.\nI designed this Permanent as a base miles training route that has virtually no dependencies on traffic conditions and can be safely ridden any time without worrying about traffic conditions. \nDetours I hit:\n–	The Mon Wharf start of the GAP is closed for now. I used the marked trails exiting Point State Park next to the Wyndham to get to the jail trail.\n–	The Southside trail is closed on the Southside approaching Station Square in the section after the Color Park and Sly Fox Brewery. The detour in words is “head for the sidewalk on South Carson”.\nTrail conditions generally:\n–	The mostly paved trails still have their many bumps due to tree roots and such\, which are sometimes painted.\n–	Relatively loose gravel in two places – (1) on the trail passing the apartments at the Waterfront\, (2) on the start of the bypass loop approaching Boston.\n–	The bypass loop approaching Boston has quite variable surfaces. A sort of smorgasbord of surfaces. None of them are very long. Few of them are smooth.\n–	The water taps are still closed for the season near Kennywood and at the Boston trailhead. This time of year\, I didn’t really need them.\n–	The pit toilets at the Boston trailhead are open.\n–	The tea shop (Boston control) was open. They have a cooler with pop and Gateraid.\n–	I rode on a windy day\, and I appreciated we live in PA and not Kansas. Our rivers swoop in curves\, so even on a windy day the sections in the wind get broken up.\nBike selection (like a Zwift course review):\n–	While this course is mostly paved\, it isn’t always smooth. If you have a gravel bike\, you might appreciate the plushness of the ride of gravel friendly tires. On the other hand\, I rode my Trek with 700×28 tires\, since I value my big boy gears and my aerobars more for the flats than I do plush tires for the rougher patches. Anyone should be fine on their standard rando bikes.
