SUMMARY:Team Decaf Tuesday Ride
DESCRIPTION:Hello.  Tomorrow\, we are going to do a new route – in honor of election day.  We will be doing a route that takes us through all 9 City Council districts (District 4 is the one that made this a hilly endeavor). \n\n\n\nThis election cycle\, it is the odd-number districts that are up for election (1\, 3\, 5\, 7\, 9). \n\n\n\nStandard Route: \n\n\n\nHere is the standard route (21.3 miles\, 1563 ft elevation gain): \n\n\n\n               Strava: https://www.strava.com/routes/3089654708987056666 \n\n\n\n               Ride with GPS: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42899393 \n\n\n\nShorter Route: \n\n\n\nNote:  Riders who wish to skip the hills Districts 2 and 4 can go back via the Jail Trail from downtown using this route (14.4 miles\, 499 ft elevation gain): \n\n\n\nStrava: https://www.strava.com/routes/3093209844344995840 \n\n\n\nRide with GPS: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42899394 \n\n\n\nFun issues (for the full route.  The shorter route does not do either of these): \n\n\n\n·        We will be taking the sidewalk to cross the Liberty Bridge and to climb McCardle. \n\n\n\n·        Between Bausman and Parklow is an unmarked trail.  Keep your eyes peeled.  We will be walking our bikes here (sorry\, but this was the shortest way that I could include District 4). \n\n\n\nDistricts in order of occurrence: \n\n\n\n            District 7 – Deb Gross (up for election vs Jordan Botta) – (we start here): \n\n\n\n            District 9 – Ricky Burgess (up for election\, not running.  Candidates are Khari Mosley and Khadijah Harris)- (when we cross Stanton on Highland) \n\n\n\n            District 8 – Erika Strassburger – (when we cross Center on Highland) \n\n\n\n            District 6 – R. Daniel Lavelle – (when we cross Center on Melwood) \n\n\n\n            District 1 – Bobby Wilson (up for election vs Steven Oberst) – (when we cross Liberty at the bottom on Polish Hill) \n\n\n\n            District 3 – Bruce Kraus (up for election\, not running. Only candidate is Bob Charland) – (when we cross the Liberty Bridge) \n\n\n\n            District 2 – Theresa Kail-Smith – (when we get to McCardle after crossing the Liberty Bridge) \n\n\n\n            District 4 – Anthony Coghill – (when we start to walk up the trail from Bausman to Parklow) \n\n\n\n            District 5 – Barb Warwick (up for election vs Laura Brillman) – (when we turn onto Second Ave after the Jail Trail) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFront and rear lights are recommended. \n\n\n\nSunset will be 8:30PM. Jason leads. \n\n\n\nLegalities and Logistics: \n\n\n\nPlease be sure to sign in at https://forms.gle/TVfJUMVoaXLNswHGA at any time up to the start of the ride. Try to sign up as soon as you know you will be attending to avoid delays at the start. NOTE: YOU MUST SIGN IN FOR EACH WEEK’S RIDE. \n\n\n\nHERE ARE THE RIDE DETAILS: \n\n\n\nTeam Decaf rides every Tuesday from April until the first Tuesday in October. The ride starts and finishes at Tazza D’oro Cafe\, 1125 N. Highland\, Highland Park\, 15206. We leave at 6:15pm sharp. Plan to arrive around 6:00pm for sign-in and pre-ride details. \n\n\n\nRide speed is medium-to-fast paced. We usually break in to several groups\, based on riders’ skill/speed levels. Ride distance is typically 15 to 30 miles based on the amount of available daylight. Less experienced and slower riders are encouraged to join the group and will be accommodated. Ride leaders for the faster group and new routes are always welcome.  \n\n\n\nIf it’s wet or raining\, the ride is cancelled. There is no formal notification for cancellation. SUMMARY:Team Decaf Tuesday Ride
DESCRIPTION:Hello.  This is Jason McCullough\, and this is my first time officially leading a Team Decaf ride.  This week\, we are going to do a new route – in honor of local sculptor Thaddeus Mosley. \n  \nStarting normal time/place:  6:15PM\, Tazza D’Oro.  Tuesday\, April 11 \n  \nStandard Route \nHere is the standard route: https://www.strava.com/routes/3079163092963565978 \n  \nThis route will pass by the following sculptures.  In the route\, I made it zig-zag a bit so that you know this is where a sculpture is. \n\nIntersection of Center and Penn (the cut-thru to Ellsworth across from Target).  There are 3 sculptures here: Region in Suspension (1996)\, Oval Continuity (2017)\, and Branched Form (2017)\nFifth Ave and Clyde:  Inverted Dancer (2022)\nBehind the Carnegie Museum (you can see one of the sculptures thru the window)\nMartin Luther King Cultural Center (Milwaukee and Herron): Mountaintop (1987)\nDinwiddle and Center: Phoenix (1979)\nStanwix and Ft Duquesne Blvd: a portrait of Thaddeus is on the building\n\nAfter this\, the standard route returns via Lawrenceville and Allegheny Cemetery. \n  \n  \nExtended Route: \nOnce we reach Point State Park as a group\, I have added a more aggressive option for riders who want to go longer (and hillier) by climbing Greenleaf and crossing Duquesne Heights/Mt Wash/Allentown/Arlington: \n  \nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3079170313501117434 \n  \n  \nThaddeus Mosley: \nYou can read about Thaddeus Mosley here: \nhttps://www.ura.org/news/meet-the-artist-behind-new-sculptures-in-east-liberty-thaddeus-mosley \n  \nhttps://carnegiemuseums.org/carnegie-magazine/winter-2017/thinking-in-the-round/ \n  \nThe idea and information for this ride was lifted from this activity from the ridiculously energetic and durable Alyssa Chance: https://www.strava.com/activities/8842281112  .  However\, it is not an obligation of this ride to wear the LED bunny ears. \n  \n  \nFront and rear lights are recommended (and are NECESSARY for the extended route).Sunset will be 7:54PM. Jason leads. \nLegalities and Logistics: \nPlease be sure to sign in at https://forms.gle/TVfJUMVoaXLNswHGA at any time up to the start of the ride. Try to sign up as soon as you know you will be attending to avoid delays at the start. NOTE: YOU MUST SIGN IN FOR EACH WEEK’S RIDE. \nHERE ARE THE RIDE DETAILS: \nTeam Decaf rides every Tuesday from April until the first Tuesday in October. The ride starts and finishes at Tazza D’oro Cafe\, 1125 N. Highland\, Highland Park\, 15206. We leave at 6:15pm sharp. Plan to arrive around 6:00pm for sign-in and pre-ride details. \nRide speed is medium-to-fast paced. \nIf it’s wet or raining\, the ride is cancelled. There is no formal notification for cancellation. Free to all. \nHELMETS AND WAIVER SIGN-IN REQUIRED.  \nCOMPLETE THE ON-LINE SIGN-IN AND WAIVER HERE: https://forms.gle/TVfJUMVoaXLNswHGA \nOpen to riders 18 years and older.
